Nailions are nocturnal, and extremely easy to see in the daytime. Also, they're not very good at hiding, and that's where the Spore's Hammer comes in. At dawn, the Spore's Hammers look for any Nailions, and pound them into their nesting ground. This effectively keeps the Nailions safe from predators during the day. At dusk, the Spore's Hammers come back and pull up the Nailions with their hammer claw.
