Most insects with bright colors like this use them to signal that they're poisonous, but this species is mostly seen in systems closer to the galactic core, run by a mechanical empire which need not eat. Perhaps this pattern brings back some sort of deep-rooted fear in such an empire. It seems to be fairly effective; the planets that this species has spread to seem far less affected by those mechanical individuals, despite being in systems that belong to them.

Mantis Shrimp

<modeltype>0x9ea3031a</modeltype><locale>en_US</locale><modeltype>0x9ea3031a</modeltype><sp:ownership><sp:original name="id" type="int">501123087904</sp:original><sp:parent name="id" type="int">501123088321</sp:parent></sp:ownership>

(Odontodactylus scyllarus)

Junitron

<modeltype>0x65672ade</modeltype><locale>en_US</locale><modeltype>0x65672ade</modeltype><sp:ownership><sp:original name="id" type="int">501122866086</sp:original><sp:parent name="id" type="int">0</sp:parent></sp:ownership>

There comes a day in every parent's life when your junior grows out of their weak flesh and replaces it with the cold embrace of metal.
